About the Annual Advancement in PRRS Research Award

  • Objectives
    1. To provide a venue for Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. to sponsor applied research in PRRS control and eradication of PRRS for the benefit of the swine industry
    2. To encourage interaction among swine researchers and practitioners
    3. To enhance knowledge and communication of new information to the industry
    4. To reward research excellence
  • Components of the Advancement in PRRS Research Award
    1. The Annual PRRS Research Award consists of three separate U.S. $25,000 awards.
    2. Following completion of the research manuscript along with documentation of publication acceptance, the Independent Review Board will review all manuscripts for quality and designate additional awards:
      • 1st award U.S. $5,000
      • 2nd award U.S. $3,000
      • 3rd award U.S. $1,000
  • Eligibility for Participation
    • Students 
    • Researchers 
    • Diagnosticians 
    • Animal Scientists 
    • Practitioners 
    • Production Veterinarians 

    Eligibility for participation to include anyone in United States, Canada and Mexico. 

  • Basic Requirements for Proposal
    • Research must have the potential to generate new information that has clear relevance for enhancing PRRS virus and disease control or eradication. 

    • The proposal must include a timeline including start date and completion date (maximum length 12 months following initial funding). 

    • The proposal should target an oral presentation at the American Association of Swine Veterinarians Conference upon completion. 

    • Application has to comply with the format provided by the Advancement in PRRS Research Review Board. 
  • Selection Criteria

    The Advancment in PRRS Research Review Board acting on its own, without influence from the sponsoring company, will peer review and select proposals based on the following criteria:

    • Probability of successfully completing the project
    • Potential for economic impact to the industry
    • Originality
    • Scientific quality
  • The Advancement in PRRS Research Review Board Members

    The independent review board has revolving seats to ensure that the Board remains impartial and infused with new ideas. The renowed members consist of swine industry professionals including practicing veterinarians and researchers.

  • Confidentiality of Proposals
    • The Board agrees not to discuss proposals outside the board venue. 

    • The Board members have signed a confidentiality agreement regarding information disclosure, which will be provided upon request. 

    • Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. personnel, who will handle the practical collection of applications, will comply with the same level of confidentiality as the board members. 
  • Board Member Conflict of Interest

    Board members will not participate in the review and evaluation of any proposals or subsequent manuscripts for which they are investigators or authors, respectively.

  • Application Procedure

    The application has to comply with the application form provided by the Advancement in PRRS Research Review Board.     The application must be submitted by January 1 of each year.
