BIVI Bovine Research Award

About the Award

The cattle team at Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc. is proud to provide the Bovine Student Research Award to deserving students and faculty in the field of bovine research.  This award is designed to provide a student the opportunity to develop an understanding of how to develop and write a research protocol.  The student will perform the research and write up the research and present at a scientific meeting.

Awards will be on a competitive basis.
Submitted projects will be reviewed by the BIVI selection committee and scored on a standardized scale.

Student Eligibility

  1. Enrolled and in good academic standing in an accredited college of Veterinary Medicine
  2. Enrolled in a graduate level (Masters, PhD) program at a College of Animal Science
  3. The eligible canditate is required to have the oversight of a sponsoring University faculty member or be working in cooperation with a contract research organization (CRO).

Project Topics & Scope

Projects should have the potential to enhance preventive medicine practices in the beef and/or dairy industries.

Required Reports

Reports are required as the research during the assitantship process.

Important Dates:

April 1, 2017:  Application submission deadline.

May 15, 2017:  Award presented to winning Faculty and Students.

March 15, 2018: Projects and final report completion deadline.

Amount of Award:

Projects will be eligible for up to $25,000.  The money may be used for sample collection, laboratory assays, data analysis, travel expenses, and other costs directly associated with completion of the research project (i.e. Student labor).  Boehringer Ingelheim will not pay university indirect costs as part of this award.  Payments will be made in 2 installments:  70% at the start of the project, and 30% upon BIVI receiving the final report.  Payments will be made to the sponsoring University faculty member’s lab (or other designated University account) or to the sponsoring CRO.
