Boehringer Ingelheim’s research in its Animal Health business focuses on the research and development of innovative vaccines, primarily to protect livestock and companion animals, in addition to pharmaceutical products. In 2013, the company invested over $152 million in the research and development of new products and in setting up new R&D facilities. This is equivalent to 11.3% of the net sales generated in the company’s Animal Health, which is one of the highest rates in the industry.
