At Boehringer Ingelheim Vetmedica, Inc., we pride ourselves on being a research driven organization. Over 80 students, producing at least 100 abstracts published at major industry conferences, have participated in BIVI’s summer internship programs. Many former interns are now serving as the industry's next leaders.

During the summer, interns have the opportunity to work side-by-side with top researchers in their field. We look for students in both undergraduate and graduate veterinarian programs to assist with the research and development of livestock and companion animal vaccines and pharmaceuticals.

Undergraduate internships:

To qualify for an internship, you must be a college sophomore, junior, senior or graduate student in good academic standing and have successfully completed a minimum of 12 credit hours in your major and earned a 3.2 overall grade point average. You must be able to show proof of eligibility to work in the United States.

Veterinarian Internship programs

Clinical Research and Development Internship Program (R&DIP)

Purpose: To introduce future veterinarians to Clinical R&D in the Animal Health Industry.

  • Pharmaceutical Clinical Development (PCD) internship focuses on small animal projects.
  • The Biologics Clinical Development (BCD) internships focuses on large animal projects.
  • Veterinary Services (VS) internship focuses on laboratory animal medicine in various species (feline, cattle, swine, rabbits and rodents).

Swine Veterinary Internship Program (SVIP)

  • The internship program presents short-term, field-based learning situations for intern to gain hands-on practice in swine production medicine
  • The program provides networking opportunities as interns work with their future colleagues/swine veterinarians as part of the program
